It was during 1929 that the last Fire Company would be organized in the South End of Cedar Grove.

A meeting was held on August 18, 1929, in what was then the Joseph R. Hughes Real Estate office. Soon after, on August 29, 1929, the company was incorporated and began serving the community.

Today South End Company #3 is located at 148 Pompton Avenue. There is an authorized membership of 28 firefighters who operate and maintain Engine 73..
