During
1928, the organization of a new fire company began
to take place. Members held their first meeting on
September 8, 1928, and stepped right into the picture
of firematic matters in Cedar Grove with the organization
of the North End Fire Company No. 2.
The members contributed money to purchase a car for
fire apparatus, a six cylinder Locomobile. They placed
a body on the chassis and used it as a hose cart for
their first fire truck. The car was housed in a garage
in the rear of Dittig’s store, at the corner
of East Lindsley Road and Stevens Avenue.
Today North End Company #2 is located at 170 East
Lindsley Road. There is an authorized membership of
28 firefighters who operate and maintain Engine 72
and Engine 76.
